In this RP game there will be three major categories of characters that you'll play
Canon Characters: These characters are established characters from official Harry Potter Media, Books, movies. It should be noted that you still have a lot of room to play with depending on the canon character you are playing. While some characters have fully fleshed out backstories and personalities, other characters are little more than a name and a couple of minor references. In cases like this, filling in backstories and personalty traits for these characters is not only allowed but encouraged. In short, if a character already has well established backstory and personality traits, use those as a jumping off point and take it into whatever direction you want from there. If your character is mostly a blank slate. Feel free to fill in said blanks.
Original Characters: Original Characters or OCs are characters that you yourself create. They can be anyone, from a canon characters unexplained parents, to a student, a teacher or even a politician. Just please for the love of Merlin don't make a Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way type character. Don't even make a Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way type lite type character. Your fellow Potterheads will thank you.
Character limits: For now, there is no limit to how many characters you can play beyond your reason to keep track of them. Just keep in mind you'll need to make a character for any new character you post. Just make sure to update your charecter sheet by clicking reply under your character sheet, or make a new profile.
NPCs: NPCs are characters that exist to help move a plot along but don't really play a big enough part in the overall forum to warrant their own sheet. Often times they are servants or employees of the played characters. In cases like this you can simply play their parts under your main character
Age/School Year:
Status/Species: (muggle-born/half-blood/pure-blood)

Alternate Universe Characters: these characters come from a different timeline or Universe. More often than not they are variants of canon characters that chose different paths in life or were born under different circumstances. Maybe there is a Universe where Harry is a Slytherin, or a universe where Tom Riddle is a noble charming seductive socialite instead of a psychopathic megalomaniac. Maybe in another world Ron is a girl or Nevile Longbottom is one of the last surviving witches of a magical zombie apocalypse.
It should be noted Alternate Universe characters cannot replace Canon characters outright, even ones that are dead. So you'll need to write down in the backstory how said character came to this universe. You'll also need to designate a random earth designation ala Marvel or DC. Example: Earth-37 or Earth-76425.
Other Characters: Other Characters are characters that normally exist in other franchises, for example Dr Who, Captain America, Ash Williams and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would all exist under this category. While these types of characters are allowed to be played and there will be times where the board will have crossover events, it's asked that you please use such characters sparingly and make sure that any character that is used, is written in a way that incorporates them into Harry Potter universe and lore as seamlessly as possible. Keep in mind this is first and foremost a harry potter thread.

Characters are allowed to be killed; however, it has to be agreed on by both the players involved and the admins/mods
Note on dead characters: I'm not against a dead character being brought to life. You want to Cedric Diggory, Sirius Black or even Lilly Potter a 2nd chance at life feel free, but you have to be able to come up with a reasonable explanation for the resurrection that gets approval from a staff member. That being said, there is one exception If at any point in the RP Voldemort dies (meaning both he and all his Horcruxes get destroyed), HE STAYS DEAD! Even if he gets killed early he stays dead. Even if some random person kills him or he dies by a freak accident ala game of thrones, if all other horcruxes are gone, he stays dead. Resurrecting him just to make him the main cause of yet another conflict cheapens him, and takes the spotlight from other potential characters that could make for good villains in their own right. Staff may approve workarounds or exceptions to this but that will be done very rarely if at all. No Rise of Skywalker: Harry Potter Edition please.
